Tree With Bioluminescence Lighting
Utilizing light bioluminescence, a group of researchers discovered a new way to illuminate the streets around the world. By creating gold nanoparticles, researchers managed to turn into a tree lighting street lights.
Researchers from Academia Sinica and the National Cheng Kung University in Taipei and Tainan is looking for another alternative of phosphor powder used for lighting Light Emitting Diode (LED). Substance sought is a cheaper alternative, but it does not contain harmful substances.
"Light emitting diode (LED) has replaced traditional light source in many display panels and light traffic on the roads around the world," said Shih-Hui Chang Professior, as quoted by DailyTech.
Chang said, a lot of LEDs, especially white LEDs using phosphor powder to stimulate light of various wavelengths. "Unfortunately, phosphor powder is highly toxic and its price is too expensive," he said.
"For that, Dr. Yen-Hsun Su, initiated the idea to look for a more secure method of chemical substances, to replace Bubun phosphorus, "said Chang.
Researchers then took Bacopa caroliniana trees and leaves sprinkled with gold nanoparticles. Apparently, using ultraviolet light, the gold nanoparticles were then produce a blue-violet luminescence that triggers the red light around the chlorophyll of plants. The chlorophyll causes leaves of trees emit red light.
Researchers believe that their creations are a safer alternative compared to traditional lighting to reduce light pollution and carbon emissions. In addition, the new solution also reduces costs for electricity.
"In the future, bio-LED could be used to make the trees on the side of the road into the light on at night. This will save energy and absorb CO2 as the bio-LED light will cause the chloroplast perform photosynthesis, "said Dr. Yen-Hsun Su. - Tree With Bioluminescence Lighting
